Cast Iron Cookware – First Choice of Gourmet Chefs
Cast iron cookware has been dubbed “America’s Cookware.” It’s been used by crusading American pioneers for centuries because of its durability and excellent heat retention and distribution. It was proudly passed down from generation to generation as part of inheritances.
Not only American chefs prefer cast iron cookware as their cooking utensil of choice. Gourmet chefs around the globe prefer cast iron for a number of reasons. Besides lasting forever and obvious heat retention and distribution features, cast iron is also stick resistant and can be used either on the stove top or in the oven.
There’s no other cookware that meet those criteria – and, chefs can use any utensil with cast iron. Wooden spoons, metal spatulas and rubber or plastic can all be used interchangeably with cast iron products.
Cast iron cookware should be seasoned to ensure that foods don’t stick on the bottom during cooking. It’s very easy to season a cast iron utensil. Simply wash your new cookware (including the lid, if applicable), apply a coat of oil or shortening to the inside and outside and bake (upside down) in an oven preheated to 350 degrees for an hour or so.
After seasoning, simply rinse your cookware in warm water and dry thoroughly with a paper towel. Never put your cast iron cookware in the dishwasher as it will remove the seasoning process and possibly rust the finish.
There are new, enameled coated, cast iron cookware products on the market today and they’re proving to be just as efficient and durable as the original cast iron cookware products.
